The University of California, Santa Barbara is accepting applications for a full-time assistant coach (12-month contract).  This position will be responsible for coaching the following men’s and women’s events:  Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Hammer, Hep, Dec, and High Jump.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to):

·      When necessary, perform duties as assigned by the Head Coach

·      Design, implement, and lead daily, weekly, yearly plans/practices for the men’s and women’s throwers, multi’s and high jumpers

·      Identify, recruit, and retain future student-athletes

·      Assist with home meet management

·      Assist with team travel, including driving vehicles

·      Monitor student-athlete academic success as needed

·      To help with our annual fundraising goals

·      A commitment to fostering an environment consisting of great team comradely, cooperation, and communication

·      Abide by policies and procedures of the NCAA D1, Big West Conference, and University of California, Santa Barbara

Minimum Qualifications:

·      Bachelor's degree

·      At least one-year prior coaching experience at the college/university, or professional level within the multi's, and/or throwing event areas

·      Knowledge of sport-specific training, techniques, rules, and safety within the event areas

·      Recruiting experience

·      Proficiency in communication (written & oral), planning and organization

·      Computer and related software skills


Desired Qualifications:

·      > 1 year prior coaching experience at the college/university, or professional level within the multis, and/or throwing event areas.

·      Proven successful recruiting record

·      Proven ability to positively progress athletes through a given time frame

·      Coaching certification(s) within the throwing and/or multi’s a plus

·      Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA D1 rules and regulations

·      Ability to foster positive influences and relationships among diverse individuals within and out of the University setting

·      Collegiate competitive experience
