ABOUT COURSE 510

Course 510 is a 16 hour, high level endorsement granting course that covers the coaching and preparation of 800 and 1500 meter runners. Primary focus is on the preparation of high level athletes. Topics include testing markers for high performance, athlete management, high level training design and administration, competition management, technical issues, and sports sciences related to the middle distance events.

COURSE PREREQUISITES

To qualify to attend this class, the student must have successfully completed course 305 (Endurance Specialist Certification) and three of the following: 401, 403, 405, 406, 407, 409. In order to attain the Master’s Endorsement in the Middle Distances, the student must have have successfully completed all of the aforementioned courses and complete a mentorship requirement.

TRAVEL

Students are responsible for their own transportation the Villanova campus. Plan to arrive at the course Hotel before 5:30 PM, or at the course site by 6:00 PM Friday January 2. Transportation will be provided daily from the hotel to the classroom and back in accordance with course hours. Airport (PHL) departures should be planned after 1 PM on Sunday.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

The most economical way to get to Villanova from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is via the SEPTA regional rail Line. Take AMTRAK to 30th Street Station in Center City Philadelphia. Take SEPTA’s Regional Rail Line, the Paoli/Thorndale line (Paoli Local) to Villanova Station. When you leave the train, take the pedestrian tunnel under the tracks and walk straight through the walkway under Mendel Science Center. The Villanova stop is approximately 200 meters from Gallen Hall, where check in will take place. The average trip takes about 45 minutes, including the change of trains at 30th St. The current cost is $10.
