Course 509 is a 16 hour high level endorsement granting course that covers the coaching and preparation of shot putters and discus throwers. Primary focus is on the preparation of high level athletes. Topics include testing markers for high performance, athlete management, high level training design and administration, competition management, advanced cuing and technical teaching, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the shot put and discus events.


To qualify to attend this class, the student must have successfully completed course 304 (Throws Specialist Certification) and three of the following: 401, 403, 405, 406, 407, 408. In order to attain the Master’s Endorsement in the Shot Put and Discus, the student must have have successfully completed all of the aforementioned courses and complete a mentorship requirement.


Students are responsible for their own transportation to Chicago. Plan to arrive at the course Hotel (Country Inn and Suites of Rossele) before 5:30 PM Friday November 7, or at the course site (Lake Park High School) by 6:00 PM Friday November 7. Transportation will be provided daily (including Friday evening) from the hotel to the Lake Park HS and back in accordance with course hours. At the end of the course on Sunday, November 9, transportation will be provided from Lake Park to O’Hare Airport. No transportation will be provided to Midway airport. O’Hare departures should be planned after  1 PM on Sunday.
